The Scripps Research Institute recently released a study outlining how they identified the two most important molecules that cause stress to transition into anxiety. Until now, not much has been known about how everyday stress turns into crippling anxiety in the brain.
This new information could end up helping in the development of new, more efficient methods of treating anxiety disorders in teens medicinally.

Recognizing anxiety in your child

Many teenagers grow into adulthood without ever receiving treatment for their mental health issue simply because no one ever noticed or considered it was an actual issue. There’s a strong stigma within society that mental health issues are rare, but they’re most certainly not.
To help parents better identify anxiety disorder in teens, here are some common symptoms to watch for:

  • Excessive fears and worries
  • Tends to be extremely cautious, wary, vigilant
  • Feelings of inner restlessness
  • Becomes withdrawn, uneasy in social settings
  • Frequently occupied with unrealistic concerns or losing control
  • Either overly emotional or overly restrained
  • Complaints about physical pain, like headaches, fatigue, etc.
  • Has issues focusing or concentrating
  • Gets shaky very often
  • Panic attacks
  • Depression
